Effect of vitamin C

Mode of action

Ascorbic acid acts on the formation and the synthesis of the triple helix in collagen.
It also stimulates the production of collagen by increasing the average level of mRNA of collagen types 1 and 3 by increasing the half-life of the enzyme transcriptase.
Its use in young women results in an increased preservation of the integrity of the collagen and of the elastin. This has a significant anti-aging effect (wrinkles).
In older or menopaused women, it acts on the mRNA and hence stimulates the synthesis of collagen and polypeptide chains that form the binding bridges in the triple helix.
